Isabella's begins it's year-long celebration of 20 years on the Upper West Side on Sunday, May 4th with birthday cake, balloons and Isabella's original menu items like the Grilled Chicken Handroll and the house-made Penne Pasta with Baked Ricotta Salata.
Throughout the year Isabella's will be featuring weekly specials from Isabella's original menu, and here are a few Isabella's favorites to try at home:
Chicken Handroll (makes one serving)
One 10-inch flour tortilla
2-3 slices of applewood smoked bacon, cooked
1/3 cup arugula
1/4 cup of an avocado, thinly sliced
2 slices tomato, lightly salted
1/2 (5-6 oz) grilled chicken breast
3 tablespoons basil aioli (recipe below)
Place the tortilla on a flat surface and spread 1.5 tablespoons of aioli. In the center of the tortilla layer the arugula, sliced bacon, avocado and chicken - spreading .5 tablespoon of the aioli on the chicken. Starting with the side closest to you, roll the tortilla up length-wise and trim both ends of the tortilla. Cut in half on the diagonal, and secure with a toothpick if needed.
Basil Aioli
1 medium bunch of fresh basil, stems removed
Juice of two lemons
One egg yolk
1 cup oil, such as canola or soy
1/4 cup distilled white vinegar
Salt and pepper to taste
Combine egg yolk, lemon juice and basic in food processor until blended (about a minute). Slowly add oil into the food processor until it reaches a mayonnaise-like consistency and finish blending with the distilled white vinegar, salt and pepper.
Passion Fruit Cosmopolitan
1 1/2 oz vodka
1/2 oz triple sec
1/2 oz passion fruit puree
1 oz cranberry juice
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, combine all ingredients and shake 20 times. Pour into a martini glass and enjoy.
